EXERCISES
Project 1 (Exercise 1) :
Week 3 - 19/10/2023
Digital Collage
Using the images provided, we are required to create a total of 3 Digital Collages. Below are the compositions I have made with the images provided.
Figure 2.1 Pre-Composition 1 (12/10/2023)
Figure 2.2 Pre-Composition 2 (18/10/2023)
Figure 2.3 Pre-Composition 3 (18/10/2023)
Project 1 - Digital Collage
Among all 3 composition, only pre-composition 3 is accepted by Mr Martin for final submission.
Figure 2.4 Golden Ratio
Figure 2.5 Process of my Composition (Week 4, 18/10/2023)
As shown in Figure 2.5, I used the golden ratio in order to construct my digital collage. With most of the larger images/components being buildings, I have used it to be one my main components in my digital collage. Then, I used the remaining components which are smaller in size compared to the buildings to fill in the spaces following the wave line according to the golden ratio as seen in Figure 2.4. Therefore, the outcome of the layout takes the shape of a wave.Final Digital Collage Composition
Figure 2.6 Final Composition (Week 4, 18/10/2023)
Project 1 - Digital Imaging Exercise 1
In Week 4, I am assigned to complete Project 2 which covers the topic of Digital Imaging.
Figure 2.7 Project 1 Self Portrait (Week 4, 23/10/2023)
As required for the project, this is an image of me at eye level with natural lighting. My portrait is then masked and insert to the provided image.
Figure 2.8 Application of techniques to my image (Week 4, 25/10/2023)
In Figure 2.8, I have adjusted the lighting to fit the image and created a shadow for myself in the image which I have learnt in Week 4.
Final Digital Imaging Exercise 1 Submission

Digital Imaging Exercise 2
Week 6 - 08/11/2023
1. Research
Figure 2.10 Image Reference/Research
Source : Pinterest
My Idea for Digital Imaging Exercise 2 is to reference from a Japanese traditional clothing "kimono" which resembles the one in the image provided. I have chosen an image with people of various skin color which will allow me to explore the suitable skin tone for my recoloring image.
2. References / Colors
Figure 2.11 Color Swatches (Week 5, 01/11/2023)
Figure 2.11 shows my color swatches from my reference.
3. Edit
Figure 2.12 1st Attempt (Week 5, 01/11/2023)
Feedback : Background color is clashing with the clothing, Mr Martin advises to change to colors that are contrasting with each other.
FINAL Digital Imaging Exercise 2 Submission
Figure 2.13 FINAL Digital Imaging Exercise 2 Submission (Week 6, 08/11/2023)
Based on the feedbacks given, I have changed the background and kimono color that contrast with each other. Figure 2.13 is my final submission for Digital Imaging Exercise 2.
FEEDBACKS
Week 3 - 18/10/2023
Composition 1 & 2 is not good, Composition 3 is good and can be final submission.
Week 4 - 25/10/2023
Overall editing is good, no issue or any changes required.
Week 6 - 08/10/2023
Overall recoloring on the person is good but the color of the background should be changed as it clashes with the color of the kimono which does not show the contrast in colors.
REFLECTION
Overall my experience in Project 1 was fun and challenging as I am very new to using Photoshop hence I have gain the basic skill in using photoshop. At first, it takes me quite some time to figure the function and familiarizing it. It was very interesting to explore different methods or style we can do in digital collage and trying out different options with the components provided. After learning the basics of using photoshop, I have gained a better understanding of the tools & functions in the software to edit images.
