INSTRUCTION

PROGRESSION
Jump Animation (Demonstrated Exercise)
1. Reference
Based on the animator's survival kit.

2. Progression
Legs/Hips - Blocking
Positioning Hips and Legs as a "blocking" process,

Keyframe Key Point : Anticipation - Take Off - Landing - Post Landing
Take Off - One leg lifted as a boost to jump up
Landing - Lowest leg comes to contact to ground first before first leg that was first lifted before jump.

 Figure 2.1 Legs - Blocking

Arms/Spine
Anticipation arms moving backwards before "pushing" up, then arms lifted up as about to take off that "pulls" the character to jump. Landing with arms coming back last as a follow through of the action. Lastly, post landing of arms dropping down to backwards.

Head
1 - Bend - Up
2, 3 - Anticipation & Landing - Down

Follow Through
Swaying Backwards - Hands Bent Forward.
Swaying Forward - Hands Bent Backwards.

Tweaks
Tweaks keyframes done on toes when the character lifts its legs, when about to lift or about to come in contact pose.
Lift & About to Lift - Positioned Dragging Down, a part that comes after an action/movement
Contact Pose - Positioned "Pulled Up", a part that comes after an action/movement

Graph Cleanup
Once all the keyframing are completed, each part from head to toe is carefully polished individually to achieve a smoother outcome.

Cartoon Jump Animation

Video Study

2. Progression
Legs/Hips
1 - Bend - Up
2 - Anticipation  - Down
3 - Mid Jump
4 - Landing
5 - Post-Landing

Compared to the normal jump, the legs for before take off and landing contact pose has its legs stretched longer than a normal human capacity as seen in the images below.
The jump for cartoon jump is also much higher with its legs also brought higher.

Arms/Spine

Head
Similar positions as Jump Animation.

Follow Through
Similar positions as Jump Animation but accommodated to the arm's position in cartoon jump.

Graph Cleanup
Once all the keyframing are completed, each part from head to toe is carefully polished individually to achieve a smoother outcome.

FEEDBACK
Week 10 - 25/06/2025
- all is ok probably avoid putting camera above the head at least low angle or eye-level, if not jump wont look obvious.
- normal jump can be higher
- cartoon jump - landing can bring hand back more
- cartoon - landing should be straight legs before bending into landing pose
- front view a bit limited to see the jump better change to side view

 REFLECTION

Reflecting on my progression for this project, I would definitely say I have gotten more familiar in 3D aniamtion as compared to when I first started this module. Even though there were many exercises we have done for this module so far, I believe this is just the beginning of animation and I am looking forward to learn more and further enhance my skills in 3D animation when working on future projects. Through this project, I was able to apply the knowledge obtained in animation fundamentals applying the anticipation and blocking method to keyframe each pose in blender. Animating the arms was a slight challenge for me at the start as I could not get a certain part to look natural and smooth but with the guidance of Mr Kamal, I was able to overcome my challenges to complete this project.
