PROGRESSION
PROJECT 1 : WALK CYCLE
Vanilla Walk (Demonstrated Exercise)
1. Reference
Based  on the animator's survivor kit.

2. Process
Legs
Positioning Hips and Legs as a "blocking" process,

Keyframe Key Point : Contact - Down (Lowest Point/Position) - Up (Highest Point/Position) - Lift

Figure 2.1 Legs - Keyframe

Arms
Opposite arms to the legs is brought forward with forearms slightly bent. The same is done in the opposite way for the other arm.

Figure 2.2 Arms - Keyframe

Once all the blocking keyframes are done, all keyframes are copied and paste flipped to complete the second half of the walk cycle.

Follow Through
Swaying Backwards - Hands Bent Forward.
Swaying Forward - Hands Bent Backwards.

Figure 2.3 Follow Through - Keyframe

Tweaks
Tweaks keyframes done on toes when the character lifts its legs, when about to lift or about to come in contact pose.
Lift & About to Lift - Positioned Dragging Down, a part that comes after an action/movement
Contact Pose - Positioned "Pulled Up", a part that comes after an action/movement

Figure 2.4 Tweaks - Keyframe

Body Movement
According the leg it is stepping forward, the waist lean towards the opposite side with a slight rotation towards the leg stepping forward.

Graph Polishing
Once all the keyframing are completed, each part from head to toe is carefully polished individually to achieve a smoother outcome.

Attitude Walk
1. Reference
(Character on the left/white hair)

2. Process
Progression #1
Similar process that begins with hips and legs keyframing moving onto arms keyframing.

Figure 2.8 Attitude Walk - Contact

Legs
Positioning Hips and Legs as a "blocking" process,

Keyframe Key Point : Contact - Down (Lowest Point/Position) - Up (Highest Point/Position) - Lift

The attitude walk takes a bigger step forward, bends down lower, goes up to the max of its legs (without overstretching the capacity of the character).

Figure 2.9 Legs/Hips - Keyframe

Arms
Opposite arms to the legs is brought forward with forearms slightly bent. The same is done in the opposite way for the other arm. In comparison to the vanilla walk cycle, the attitude walk has its arms lifted forward much more to emphasize a  "big" walk.

Once all the blocking keyframes are done, all keyframes are copied and paste flipped to complete the second half of the walk cycle.

Progression #1

Figure 2.14 Progression #1 - Attitude Walk

Progression #2
According to my feedback, more exaggeration is applied to its footsteps and upper body to emphasize the walk.

Progression #2

Figure 2.15 Progression #2 - Attitude Walk

Progression #3
Spine
According to my feedback, more exaggeration is applied to its footsteps and upper body to emphasize the walk.

Figure 2.16 Spine - Keyframe

Body Movement
More exaggeration to the twisting and leaning left and right.

Once all the keyframing are completed, each part from head to toe is carefully polished individually to achieve a smoother outcome.
